History
Central Otago
Bannockburn was part of the 1800’s goldrush and tailings and sluicings are still seen today preserved in time. Local walkways take in the sights of the past and are well worth the stroll. In the mid 1800’s the miners cut water races from the far away snow-clad mountains in the south to bring the necessary water to wash the riddles and mine the gold. These same water races now bring the water to the Bannockburn Valley for farms, vineyards and orchards. The area is predominantly livestock and fine merino wool production higher up the valley run on vast high country stations with horticulture on the lower slopes.
One of the lower landholdings, is the Pisa View farm, which the Pisa View Homestead is set on. Due to the establishment of the homestead nearly 100 years ago, it nestles in sheltered established grounds with stunning views predominantly to the north, the Pisa Range. And because of its age, the homestead has just gone through a complete rebuild and was appointed to an extremely high standard making it very easy place to relax in. During this reconstruction the owners took the initiative to include the self contained studio unit into their plans. The studio is annexed to the homestead and designed to be for family and guests to enjoy, whenever.
The Lake Dunstan Trail, and from it, the new trail that will ultimately link back to Gibbston, Arrowtown and Queenstown (which is under construction), has certainly opened up the need for accommodation. Add into the mix the hosts involvement with the cherry orchard, it did not take long to see value in converting the woolshed to accommodation for both seasonal employees and the trail riders.
